Why do the twitter follower stats not reflect my twitter followers?

Why doesn’t my ‘follower stats’ show updated Twitter followers? It hasn’t updated for a couple of months now. I have tried removing the widget and re-installing but doesn’t change anything. The new Twitter Timeline doesn’t work. Had to re-install the old Twitter widget.

Hi there,
We grab your Twitter follower count from the account that’s connected via Publicize under Settings > Sharing in your dashboard. If your follower count isn’t updating, you can try disconnecting and reconnecting your Twitter account with these steps: Publicize – Reconnecting Services

Thanks for responding Rachel. I tried to reconnect as you suggested but now unfortunately Twitter stats don’t register at all. Even after I cleared my browser of cookies.
The timeline Widget doesn’t even show up on my blog, except for the “Follow me on Twitter” line. No feed at all. :-(

Yikes, sorry about that! I just tested our system and it worked when I connected a Twitter account, so it looks like there was a glitch when you reconnected your account.
Can you please try disconnecting and reconnecting your Twitter account one more time? After you disconnect it, please clear your browser’s cache before reconnecting it. If your Twitter followers still don’t show up, please let me know and we’ll keep investigating that.

That can be a sign that either something is wrong in the widget setup, or something may be blocking your Twitter feed in your browser. Can you please try setting up that widget again so I can take a look at it? You can follow the instructions for setting it up here: Twitter Timeline Widget
Once it’s up on your blog, I’ll be able to troubleshoot why it isn’t working. :)

Well, I did get the Twitter feed to show up on my blog, but the stats still do not register. I have the regular “Twitter” widget installed, although it doesn’t show in my “publicize” stats at all now. Before this began, the “follower stats” had not updated for a couple of months. Now it doesn’t exist.
I repeatedly tried “Timeline” to no avail.

Hi there,
I just want to clarify that the Twitter and Twitter Timeline widgets are totally separate from the Publicize Twitter connection and your Twitter follower stats. I’m happy to troubleshoot the Twitter Timeline widget with you, but if you’re happy with the Twitter widget you can use that for now — it won’t affect your Twitter follower stats.
Have you tried reconnecting your Twitter account in Publicize one more time, to see if that fixes the glitch in your follower stats? (As I mentioned in my last message, you can try clearing your browser’s cache before reconnecting to make sure the old connection doesn’t interfere in the process.) Please give that a try if you haven’t yet and let me know how it goes.

I was clearing my cache before disconnecting from twitter. It’s all better now! I am happy to continue to use the twitter widget.
