Why does a pingback or comment need approval, even when the right boxes are tic?

  Even though I believe I’ve ticked all the right boxes under ‘Discussion’, I sometimes get the need to approve comments and pingbacks. Most recent examples were:

  a pingback on http://vickyhaigh.wordpress.com
  and a comment on http://victims-unite.net

  http://vickyhaigh.wordpress.com is indeed allowing pingbacks. Could it have been accidentally switched off for that single post?
