Why does an image on a page automatically appear in gallery

I want to paste an image into the text on a page – yet do not want it to appear in the gallery that is also displayed on the page – I want the stand alone image(s) in the text to NOT appear in the gallery. When I insert the image it automatically appears in the gallery too – I can’t prevent that happening. If I delete the image from the gallery in gallery settings, it won’t appear in the insert within the text.

You need to use “excludes” or upload the images in a different, already published post or page that doesn’t include a Gallery.
