Why does commenting on blogspot cause the error "You do not own that identity"?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Dear Support Team

In the last few days, whenever I try to comment a blogspot blog with my wordpress ID, it always tells me: “You do not own this identity”, which is not true, as I maintain my blog for over two years now.

Can anyone help me with this issue?

Thanks in advance and best regards
    Anita

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Many thanks for your answer, thistimethisspace.
Unfortunately it does not help me. I commented the same way as ever in the last two years: I put “anitaswelt” in the wordpress section of the comments. It worked until a couple of days ago. Now it does not work anymore but the blog is still mine, I write posts and can comment under wordpress.

    Any idea?

All I can say is that over the course of 8 years I have found that using Open ID fails more often than it succeeds. Perhaps Staff can come up with some magic fix that I’m not aware of.

I did not use OpenID but the wordpress thing I can choose. There I have to fill in my wordpress name aka anitaswelt and it worked fine until some days ago. Did anything change then?

    Nothing changed here.

Hmm, this is really strange. It worked this week and now it does not work anymore. Maybe they changed something at blogspot? I know that I am not the only one with this problem. What a pity :(
But thank you anyway for your support!

Can you please try clearing your cache and cookies?

Let me know if that fixes it!

Thank you so much for your advice, shawnajroberts. It worked and I can comment again as usual.

I’ll post your reply in the german section as well, as there is someone else with the same problem. Maybe it will help, too.

    Many thanks and best regards

Fabulous! Glad everything’s working for you again Anita.

Let me know if I can help with anything else else. :)

  • Unknown's avatar

Well, the problem occurred again and this time clearing cache and cookies did not solve it. I did it several times and rebooted the computer but it still does not work.

    I’m completely lost :(

  • Unknown's avatar

Can you try logging out of your WordPress.com account and logging back in again?

  • Unknown's avatar

I tried it more then once and I even deleted cookies and cache again but the error remains the same :(

  • Unknown's avatar

It seems that the problem is not on our end. You’ll need to contact support over at Blogger about this. Let me know if I can help further though!

I got the following answer from Blogger, would there be any possibility to check what was tried to be done?

    Answer:
    Anita,

This issue comes up, from time to time. WordPress says there is a problem – but their servers are working, just fine. Blogger says that there is a problem – but their servers are working, just fine.

    You’re caught in the middle.

Blogger Support has this situation, in their queue.

I was going to leave an OpenID comment, on your WordPress blog – but it appears to only accept FaceBook, Twitter, and WordPress. I have used my Blogger hosted OpenID account, to comment on various Blogger blogs – so I know there is no general problem with OpenID on Blogger blogs. That would imply the problem is with WordPress – and “They”, who “checked in the background”, must be wrong, no?

    Hi

I have the same problem on stackoverflow.com. I get accustomed with having to try several times to login successfully but this time I get the same error message than dieanita “You do not own that identity”. Clearing the cache and deleting have changed absolutely nothing. Please fix this bug as soon as possible. It comes from your side for sure. Entering my pseudonym or the full OpenID identifier doesn’t work.
