Why does "dotcom" appear on the title of my site?

  • Unknown's avatar

When I click on “My site” and I am redirected to my site, “dotcom” has been tacked onto the title of my site. Ie, the title of my blog should be “The Sassy Sip” but instead it comes up as “sassysipdotcom.” This is not what I paid for at all. Please advise.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

re: changing a site title or tagline
The Site title (blog name) and/or the optional Tagline can be changed on the top of this page at any time. > Settings > General … “save changes”.

That is exactly where search engine spiders look for the site title and removing it from there can cause issues with getting your content indexed. Note that the site title (blog name) and blog address URL do not have to be the same but it’s better for SEO (search engine optimization) if they are the same.

I checked your site settings and I see that your blog address is http://thesassysip.com/ and that is the one visitors will see.

When you are in the admin area, sometimes the sassysipdotcom.wordpress.com version of your blog will show. That is normal and it is only used for admin pages while you are logged in to WordPress.com as an administrator for the blog. As long as you keep your custom domain thesassysip.com renewed and set as the primary domain, that is the ones your visitor will see.

Thank you both so much. Very helpful! My other question (maybe one of you will know the answer so I figured I’d ask here) is I have two seperate domain names that I want to operate as completely different sites, but for some reason the second domain name reroutes me to thesassysip.com which is my first domain. How can I use wordpress to operate these domains as two completely seperate sites?

It sounds like you may have mapped a 2nd domain to the 1st blog by mistake. If that’s the case, I can help you move it.

How can I use wordpress to operate these domains as two completely seperate sites?

First, just to make sure it’s really clear, when you setup a WordPress.com blog, it always gets a name like sassysipdotcom.wordpress.com and then the custom domain is mapped over the top of that and displayed for your visitors.

Have you already setup the second site using a WordPress.com account other than the cvgall90 account? If yes, can you please tell me the link for it? If no, then I can help guide you but first you should let me know if you want the cvgall90 account to be the owner of the second site or if you want to setup a different account/username for that one?

Can you please also confirm the domain name you would like to use for the second site for me?
