Why does Home page/archives show up in my stats?

  • Unknown's avatar

It’s hard to explain. But I deleted the standard “home page” and made my welcome page my home page instead (titled “Welcome to ‘Reflections Of A Bear’). When you go to my website http://www.reflectionsofabear.com, this ‘Welcome to ‘Reflections Of A Bear’ page is the one you see.

But when I look in my stats, it has
Welcome to ‘Reflections Of A Bear’ (21)
    Home page/Archives (19)
(and then a list of my posts, which have less views)

What is this phantom ‘home page’ in my stats, and how do I remove it?

    :)

    Hi,

Why does Home page/archives show up in my stats?

See the responses by staff members macmanx and andy, and the exchanges which follow them, in the April 2012 topic My Stats.

Thanks, I’ll check it out :)

Sorry, that doesn’t answer my question. I’m not questioning why it’s labelled home page + archives (as that poster was). I want to know why that stat is showing up, when my home page is actually a separate page, titled ‘Welcome to Reflections Of A Bear’. What is this ‘home page / archive’ stat that is showing up? I deleted the other home page, so the only home page that should show in the stats is the one I’ve titled.

Yes, I see what you mean. The posts by macmanx and andy in that topic do not specifically address the case where the front page is a static page. I suspect, though, that the compilation stat “Home page / Archives” still includes page views of archives pages, and may also include the posts page as well.

They had to come up with one short name to describe this compilation of stats for views of various post archives pages and of the posts page, when it’s the front page, and perhaps also of the posts page, when it’s not the front page.

I agree that it seems reasonable to assume that the “Home page / Archives” stat would include views of the homepage, when it’s a static page. You may add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of this topic to call for staff attentionm, should you wish to discuss the issue with a staff member.

No, that’s okay, I won’t bother the staff, it’s more of a curiosity rather than a problem.
Thanks for your help though! :)

You’re welcome. I’m curious as well to find out the following:

    1. Whether static front page views are included in “Home page / Archives” stat, and if not where are they found.

    2. Whether views of the posts page when it is not the front page (homepage) are included in the “Home page / Archives” stat, or credited to the static page assigned to display the posts page.

Well, if you’re curious too, let’s call in the big guys and ask :)

    Hi there,

Currently, if you have a static front page on your site, the “Home page / Archives” item in your stats can refer to a couple different things:

    1. Your blog (posts) page, if you have one for your site
    2. Any blog archives page, such as posts from a particular month, in a particular category, or by a particular author

Any views of your site’s static front page are listed under that page’s title, not the “Home page / Archives” item in your stats.

Our team is aware of the confusion about that being listed as the “Home page” in cases like this — we’re looking into ways to rename that in your stats when you have a static front/home page on your site. Thanks for bringing this up!

Oh, thanks so much! I understand now :) Thanks for dropping by to explain :)
