Why does my domain included with premium membership not work?
-
The domain I tried to register with WordPress.com when I got Premium membership does not seem to be working. When I got to Store > Domains I get this message:
It looks like the DNS for yumyumcupcakes.rj.com is not set up correctly. Go to My Upgrades.
Status: Domain included in WordPress.com Premium
When I click ”DNS needs to be updated” I get this:
Missing CNAME Record
You must make some changes to your domain before we can continue by using the tools provided by your domain registrar to add a CNAME record. It should look like this:
yumyumcupcakes 14400 IN CNAME yumyumcupcakesrj.wordpress.com.
Each registrar has its own method of adding CNAME records. The important parts of this record are your subdomain (“yumyumcupcakes”) and your original blog domain (“yumyumcupcakesrj.wordpress.com”).(If you have already done this, it may take several hours for the changes to be recognized here. Please try again in a little while.)
If you need more information, see our Mapping a Subdomain support guide.
Could you please assist?

This is the guide for mapping a subdomain

The CNAME records need to be changed where your domain name is registered,
-
Please excuse me if my confusions seem dumb, I’m new to this.
I’m not trying to register a subdomain, simply trying to change my domain from the one WordPress gives you to the one I registered with WordPress when I signed up. So is it them that need to change the CNAME records?
-
yumyumcupcakes.rj.com
Is a sub-domain URL
What is the URL / custom domain name you need help with?
If you have a custom domain name and want to map it to your blog – use these instructions

Ok…
So, currently, I’m at yumyumcupcakesrj.wordpress.com
and would like to change to
yumyumcupcakes.rj.com – which is subdomain, clearly, thanks…
It’s registered with WordPress, apparently I need to change the CNAME

And how do I change the CNAME through WordPress?
Thanks so much for your time!

rj.com
Which is the base web site you are trying to map a sub domain to – that domain is the Royal Jordanian Airline – are they really letting you tag onto their web site?
-
yumyumcupcakesrj.com
is available – is that the name you want?
Note the absence of the period “.” between the s and the r – a period turns the name into a sub-domain
-
yumyumcupcakesrj.com
without the period would be awesome. Is there a way I can get rid of the period? Didn’t realize about the Royal Jordanian Airlines, I just figured if it hadn’t been available, I wouldn’t have been able to register it.
-
Go ahead and register yumyumcupcakesrj.com – see instructions above – if you bought some sort of bundle then the registration will be no extra cost. If you don’t have a bundle then the registration will cost $ 6.- / year.
I am not sure if you can update the domain mapping, give it a try after you register the domain name. If you can’t update the domain mapping just cancel it and start over.
I have flagged this for staff attention if you need more help.
-
I meant if it hadn’t been available, I wouldn’t have been able to register it at wordpress…
I’m guessing I’ll have to delete this subdomain and then pay again to register yumyumcupcakesrj.com. Would that be correct?
-
In the end you will only pay once for the domain mapping. If you cancel the existing domain mapping within 30 days you get a full refund
You were able to purchase the domain mapping for a sub-domain because sub-domain by it’s nature is already registered with a registrar – WordPress.COM assumes you own the sub-domain name you are trying to map – since if you don’t own the sub-domain name you can’t make the sub-domain work.
If you do end up with two charges for something the staff is very good about making the charges correct
-
Thanks so much for your help, again. I did buy a bundle but as I registered an incorrect domain – .rj.com, it won’t let me add another one. I’m going to cancel and register the correct one, I guess. Thanks!

I’m 2 days late to qualify for the 30 day refund!! Maaaan… should have looked into this a bit sooner. Thanks anyway!
-
Alright, I did it as part of my bundle!! You’re star captnmike, and I even learned some boating etiquette while resolving this!

http://yumyumcupcakesrj.com/ – loads fine for me
I love it when a plan comes together :)
Glad I could help and you liked my siteNow head over to Tiemthief’s site for tips on how to make your blog better and search better. (Hint #1 – change the about Page to tell who you are and where you are located if someone wants one of those great looking cupcakes. Also a few good pictures (with proper tags and captions (see below) will help)
