Why does my domain still exist?

  My domain expired but my name still exists. When will my domain name no longer be available or live?
  I need it to be available, as I am switching hosts.

  Hi,

  The domain expiration process is pretty length: here’s a detailed review of the full timeline: Domain Expiration.

  If you’re wanting to use your domain elsewhere, you should not let it expire as it does take awhile for the full process, including your domain being put up for auction by the domain provider, so you may not be able to get it back.

  I would suggest renewing your domain ( via https://gironscience.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=my-upgrades ) and once it is renewed, you can transfer it to a different registrar and change the nameservers to point to your new host.
