why does my editor screen get immensely and unbearably long?

  • Unknown's avatar

for the past few days, my editor screen gets long beyond the reasonable. When I try to resize it with the bottom corner control button, it does not stay put but revert to its unbearable length. I look at both visual and text modes and cannot see any hidden html code explaining why. I am working under Firefox.

  • Hi there!

I visited your post editor and was not able to reproduce the problem you’re having. If you can share a screenshot of what you’re seeing, that would be of great help:

    Take a Screenshot

Additionally, try clearing your browser cache and see if the problem goes away:

Let me know what your findings are. Thanks!

Here is a screenshot : http://xianblog.files.wordpress.com/2014/04/cutcut1.jpg (I am not sure this helps much: I have pages after pages of white space until I reach the bottom of my editor…)

  • Hello there!

That’s enormous! Did clearing your browser cache help?

You can try another trick that might work:

    • Start a new post here: https://xianblog.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php
    • Then, resize the editor screen to your desired size, and save it as a draft. You don’t need to write anything.
    • Start a new post again, and see if the screen size sticks. If so, double-check by editing your other posts and see if the problem persists.

Please report back what happens. Looking forward to your reply!

Thanks! This was something I had tried previously: after I resize the screen to a normal size, as soon as I (click) save the draft, the editor screen reverts to its early humongous and abnormal size. And alas clearing the cache does not help….

  • Thanks for the update! That is strange. I’ll have this looked into by the team and see if a solution comes up. Thanks for your patience on this one.

    Cheers,

  • Hi again!

    Here’s an update:

I was unable to reproduce the experience you described as I found out that the error seems to be user- and browser- specific. However, let me help you go through a couple of additional workarounds that were suggested by the team:

    1. Clear your browser cache
    2. Start a new post here: https://xianblog.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php
    3. Switch to Text Editor mode
    4. Resize the editor screen to your desired size, leave the post empty and save it as a draft.
    5. Start a new post again, and see if the screen size sticks and for other posts.

If the above doesn’t work, try this workaround:

    1. Clear your browser cache
    2. Edit an existing blog post
    3. Press Ctrl+Shift+K on your keyboard to open up the Web Console in Firefox (let me know if you’re using a different browser)
    4. Enter setUserSetting( 'ed_size', 200 ); in the command line (as shown here) and press the Enter key.
    5. Reload the page and see if the editor size changes. Check in other posts as well.

Hope that helps! Please report back if any of these worked for you. Thanks and best of luck!

Thanks, Andrew: second solution did work. The screen remains at a decent length, even after editing and saving several times. And a new post keeps the same length. Great!!!

  • That’s awesome! Glad it worked for you. :)

    Cheers,

    Andrew D.
