Why does my primary site read as 'misplacedyankeedotcom'?
-
I own ‘misplacedyankee.com’ though in the past I’ve seen that wordpress indicates that someone on Google+ is using it…?
I would like the blog URL to be ‘misplacedyankee.wordpress.com’.
What can we do to resolve this? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Actually the issue is that I want my Primary Site listed as “MisplacedYankee” not “MisplacedYankeeDotCom”

You cannot register a site that is already registered https://misplacedyankee.wordpress.com/ and that is why the software provided the URL that it did.

There is no expiration date on .wordpress.com blogs unused, reserved or otherwise. If you can make contact on your own with the owner of an unused blog via a contact form or commenting, then providing they are agreeable to it there is a means of a consenting blog owner to transfer the blog to another username account. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account
In the case that there is no contact information Staff will not breach the privacy policy and provide you with an email address.
When we register a username account the matching blog is reserved for our future use. It cannot be obtained by anyone other than the person who has registered the matching username account.
If and only if you have registered the matching username account then log in under the correct username account and as the blog is reserved for you and you will register it after logging in under the correct username account.
https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/?user=1However, if you changed your username then the blog URL will not be available for use under the new username account.
In the event that you think you registered the matching username and have lost your log-in information, please use account recovery https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery and the Staff will help you by email ie. off of these public support forums that everyone with internet access can view.
If you are not successful, you can see here changing a blog address https://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/
Or you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.

Thank you for your input Timethief!!
I ran into this issue when I was signing up. Now that I have some time I can get back into setting up.
Something must have changed since then because I took your advise and went to the “change-blog-address” link and fixed it! -

Ya… not happy yet! I still need to get ahold of the previous user of misplacedyankee.wordpress.com and see if he will relinquish it. Hasn’t been touched since 2009… Is there a time limit for idle blogs?

There is no time limit and I don’t advise holding your breath. I advise registering another URL.
