Why does my site have ads now – I did not place them there

    Hello, I just discovered my site – apartmentprepper.wordpress.com now shows ads. I never place them there. How did the sites get there? Is my site compromised?

    Also, please let me know how to discontinue the site. I may start a new one here. Thanks in advance.

    Hi there,

    We show ads on all free sites on WordPress.com to cover the cost of providing hosting for free. You as the site owner will not always see those ads when logged into your account, but they’ve been there for as long as your site has been set to public.

    You can remove advertising from your site by upgrading to any of our paid plans.

    You can delete your site from My Site ->Settings, but please note if you do that you will not be able to use the same address again in future.
