Why does my site keep appearing offline? (website not found)
-
My website is offline and I’m not sure why. I can’t even preview it from the dashboard when I’m logged into WordPress. I recently purchased the domain thackerayphotography.com – could it have something to do with this?

Hi there!
I took a look and it looks like you purchased the domain thackerayphotography.com on a test site, then cancelled it, then tried to repurchase it on your darrenthackeray.wordpress.com site.
When you buy a domain, you can cancel the purchase within 48 hours. However, this puts the domain in limbo and cannot be purchased immediately after. If you notice, your first transaction was for $18 (domain registration) and the second for $13 (domain mapping). Domain mapping is an upgrade that is used when the domain is registered elsewhere – and since the system saw that there was existing registration information for that domain, it applied that upgrade.
I should be able to restore the domain for you – we just need you to pay the remainder of the domain registration, which comes to $5. I’ve sent you the payment request in a separate email. Let me know if you don’t receive it.
Please respond to this thread once you’re paid this request and I can try to restore the domain for you. You will receive a full refund if I’m unsuccessful.
Let me know if you have any questions!

Hi there,
Thank you for your swift reply! I have unfortunately been away from the computer for some time but have managed just now to process the payment of $5. If you could resolve the domain issue for me that would be fantastic.
What I was hoping to achieve (and clearly didn’t!) was having two functioning blog websites. One running from http://www.thackerayphotography.com and one from the pre-existing http://www.homebehindthesun.com. I’d like to run them as separate entities. I think I got confused along the way slightly.
thank you!

Hello!
In the meantime, it looks like the domain was released back into the pool of available domains, so I gave you an $18 credit to repurchase the domain.
To have two different sites, you would need two different WordPress.com sites. Go to My Blogs and click the “create another site” link:
http://wordpress.com/#!/my-blogs/Then, you can use your domain credit to purchase the domain under your new site. If you buy the domain first, we can move the domain to the site you prefer after the fact.
Let me know if you have any questions!

Hi, again thanks for your reply. I’m sorry to be a pain but I can’t seem to get this thing to work they way I want it to! I seem to have a domain http://homebehindthesundotcom.wordpress.com/ which I don’t remember naming or purchasing. I tried to create a new blog but can’t seem to find my credit, and when trying to name my domain it tells me that ‘homebehindthesun’ already exists. Also, Thackerayphotography.com has now gone offline, I think because I switched the primary adress accidentally. This is proving a little more than a headache than I thought – sorry for dragging this out – I know it should be a rather simple procedure!

You purchased the doman “homebehindthesun.com” in August of 2012 and it is mapped to “homebehindthesun.wordpress.com”.
With regards to creating a new blog, that is a free process – only the domain purchase will cost you anything.
The domain “thackerayphotography.com” is currently not registered so there’s no way it would be online. A little over a week ago, you created and deleted “thackerayphotography.wordpress.com” – is this what you mean? We are unable to restore deleted site names, so if you want a new site to purchase and use the domain “thackerayphotography.com” you can enter “thackerayphotograpy1” or something similar in the Blog Address field on the signup page (make sure you are logged into your WordPress.com account:
https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/After your new site is active, go to the new site’s dashboard and go to Store -> Domains, enter “thackerayphotography.com” in the field and click the “add domain to blog” button and go through the purchasing process to buy your domain. There is why you will see the $18 credit that can be applied to this purchase.
Does that help? Let me know if you have any other questions.
