Why does my url have the word "blog" in it?

  I think that many of the wordpress blogs I have seen usually have the name/url of the blog and then just .wordpress.com

  After I created my blog name, instead of my url simply being the name of my blog .wordpress.com, the word “blog” was added to the end of the name.

  Is this a new feature? Why has the word “blog” been added to my blog name?
