Why does my webpage appear with wordpress google ads?

I’m just madden by the only such a statement on that’d be against a TOS and “wouldn’t matter much anyways”.

Why would that statement madden you Options? That policy isn’t in effect and it has already been stated that you cannot remove the admin bar with CSS, so is it such a stretch to think that removing ads that are meant to be there would be ok? Who knows if anything will come of it anyways and we will all find out what are the rules if something does happen.

Hey, like check my blogs any time – no problem. I don’t have a css upgrade on any of them. What’s more I don’t believe anyone involved in this dialog has a wordpress.com blog with a css upgrade and staff know that so, I’m guessing they won’t be wasting time checking the blogs of those posting to this thread. I’m also guessing most of us clearly know our options and have our plans for the future in place.

Well, I thought it was about time I checked out my blog with ads, so I fired up Opera and I’ve been looking at the code. (The ad placement is really greedy, btw — I’m looking at one of my single post pages with two ads above the post and another three below. I always thought they only did them above the post.) The ad code is in two unnamed divs inside
.postentry(I’m using Almost Spring), and the ads themselves are in unnamed tables.You know, if logged-in users could see them and were aware of how hideous our blogs look with them, there would have been a mass exodus by now.
eta: I actually do have another blog with a CSS upgrade, but I’m not jeopardising it for experimentation purposes. Sorry guys.
I’m going to have to write a post apologising to anyone who’s ever had to see that mess.

But why all the aggro in the first place? Subverting WP-placed features on our blogs can indeed be a violation of ToS and if it gets done I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see some blogs ToS’ed. I was just giving a warning, because it didn’t seem like anyone was treating that as a realistic possibility.
Wank, that does look nasty. I’ve only ever seen it above the post; doubling the display area obviously doubles the revenue, but it does look extremely sploggy. I’d see that and assume it was a splog and wouldn’t link to it.

I was actually ok with people coming in from Google and seeing the ads above the post, but that? They may finally get rid of me over this. I really don’t appreciate being made to look like a splog.

wank: That’s the way my post looked today when I accidentally found the ads and that’s the reason I brought it up in the first place. It looks so horribly sploggy I can’t believe that will be the final agreed-upon format. I think the one I found a few weeks ago only was less ad-splattered. Hoping for a reasonable compromise.

I have seen the same kind of placement on my blog here http://bloggersblurt.wordpress.com and I closed my environmental blog whereon I saw a similar placement. This is not to mention other blogs I saw that grieved me.
I know where my aggro is coming from. Ads in the blogging space IMO look sploggy. I believe that at the very least, the blogging space from title to termination ought be an ad-free zone.
Granted that advertising “breaking up” a blog post does not evoke the negativity in others that it does in me but I find it very off-putting.

Uh…I’m not including this to get hits. I make zilch from my posts. I just thought this shows a tasteful way to handle things if at all possible. I know for anyone who hates ads at all, there is no compromise, but at least this shouldn’t offend readers.

right now, I’m waiting a bit and hoping to see the option to pay for no ads, which someone did already bring up. if that doesn’t happen, I will have to go through the annoying ordeal of moving my blog :I

Can’t find the link to the forum post now but I read today that there will be an ad pay for widget. When that happens, maybe they won’t put ads on sites then that don’t want them.

WTF.. lemme see.. someone provides an entirely free service that costs money to operate, yet you are offended by them trying to recoup some of that cost through random, but rare, advertising? Geez. Most “free” hosts have large banners and text ads permanently displayed at the top of all pages, and possibly all throughout it (check out MySpace.. ROFL). Be glad that WordPress is using the relatively unobtrusive Google ads.

Yep, that’s pretty much it. Plus the fact the we get lots of complaints about people not being able to put their own adsense ads in their free wp.com blog. I know it’s being addressed (search the forum) but I’ve given up caring about it.
I’m here to blog, not try and make seven pence a month from it!
