Why does 'preformatted' revert back to 'paragraph'?

    Include pre-formatted text without it becoming paragraph. This has worked for a long time but recently whenever I elect ‘pre-formatted’ and paste the data I have copied from my PC, it changes to ‘paragraph’ as soon a I hit Enter?
