Why does the media library think my files are taking up so much space?

I’m working on a masters thesis and I”m uploading lesson plans to the media library for easy linking. However, I quickly ran out of space in my media library. On my computer, my folder of lesson plans is 3.3mb. But I was unable to upload all of them to my media library. I was able to upload 14 of the 15 files, but now the Media Library says I have uploaded 2.9 gb of files.
How did 3.3 mb of files turn into 2.9 gb?

Not a clue – the Media Library has always been accurate for me
I have flagged this for the staff – they can look at your Medial Library usage I can’t – maybe they will see something you have missed

It looks like our system has missized them. I think this is related to the fact that none of your files have file sizes listed in their details. I just downloaded one of your files and reuploaded it to the Media Library and everything seemed to go okay, including the correct file size.
Can you tell me exactly how you uploaded these files?
It seems the way to correct this is to remove the files you’ve already uploaded and upload them again. Once you tell me how you uploaded these ones, I can figure out if there’s a bug in one of our methods of uploading.

I was creating pages for each lesson, and when I was writing up each page, I clicked the media link above the text box and uploaded each file through that. I selected the file from my computer and hit upload. Then once it was done uploading, I immediately added it to the page that I was on.
Should I try reuploading everything from the actual media library rather than the page I’m working on?

Thanks for those details! Yes, try uploading everything directly to your Media Library.
And I’ll do some testing uploading .docx files to posts and see if this is a bug. :)

Alright, I tried uploading everything through the media library, and they all have file sizes and it says I’m using 3.1 mb of space. So I’ll do that from now on.

Thanks! I did some testing from the editor and I wasn’t able to recreate this issue. So it may have been a hiccup with your connection.
You can go ahead and use the uploader in the editor again. If this happens when you go back, let me know and I’ll dig into this some more.
