Why does the new wordpress hover bar not have a link to my dashboard?

Ever since the WordPress login screen updated earlier this week, getting to my dashboard has been awkward and non-intuitive. When I log in, I get taken to my reader, and there is a blue bar that floats near the top of the screen. Clicking on the WordPress logo on the blue bar does not take me to my dashboard — in fact, it does nothing! Additionally, there is no link within the reader that will take me to my dashboard. The only way I’ve been able to figure out how to get to my own dashboard has been a very clumsy workaround involving clicking on the link for “comments I have made”, then clicking on my own name on my comments to go to my gravatar, and then when I use the back button from that screen, I can finally get to my dashboard. This is too many clicks! I would really rather just go straight to my own dashboard when I login.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Is the gray/black master navigation bar supposed to be loading in above the blue bar? That is not happening — there is just a white space above the blue bar immediately after I log it, and the master navigation bar doesn’t appear until after I’ve done the workaround I described above.

Same here. I miss the “My Blogs” link in the Reader bar so I can access all of them.

@kamaliaetalia- If you are logging in to the site via the WordPress.com homepage, you can click on the “My blogs” link in the blue bar and you will then see a link there to your site dashboard.

Alternatively, you can simply log in directly to your website by going here: http://kamaliaetalia.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

Sorry to barge in again, justjennifer, but there is nothing there in the blue bar since the update of the login screen (since this morning). The blue bar shows only the WP logo.

I’ve been logged in for a couple of hours and just logged out, deleted my browser cache and cookies and then went to log in again.

Usually after I log in from the WP.com front page, it takes me to the Reader screen. However, this time it took me directly to my main site’s dashboard (the one linked to my username).

So it seems to me that there is some A/B testing going on.

If you are seeing oddities, I strongly suggest that you log out of WordPress.com, clear your browser cache and cookies and then close your browser entirely. Then reopen it and log back in to WordPress.com the way you normally do.

Also, please do make sure that you are using an up to date browser as WordPress.com works best both in FF and Chrome. If you need to update/upgrade, you can find both on http://browsehappy.com/ And if by some chance you are using Internet Explorer 10+, make sure you are not in compatibility mode.

I was having exactly the same problem as listed above. I cleared my cache and cookies, closed Internet Explorer, re-opened and still had the same issue.

I checked the compatability settings in IE – WordPress was not opening in Compatability View. However, just to try I unchecked the box that says “display intranet sites in compatability view” and it’s solved the problem! I can log in as usual and go straight to my Reader with all the usual links to my stats and blogs in the blue menu bar.

    Hope this helps other people.

I tried clearing my cache and cookies, then closing and reopening Firefox — no change. After I log in, the blue bar is still BLANK except for the WP logo and a redundant “log in” button. There is not a “my blogs” link in the blue bar. I still have to use the workaround I described above to get to my dashboard.
Perhaps I should have titled my original post “Bug Report: blue bar is blank”?

Okay, logging in directly to my dashboard by directing my browser to http://%5Bmyblognamehere%5D.wordpress.com/wp-admin works. Logging in from the main wordpress splash page still produces a blank blue bar overlaying my Reader page.
Although I’d prefer to just go straight to my dashboard, I usually don’t mind being immediately directed to my Reader page when I log in — after all, it shows me what my friends have posted recently. I do mind, however, not having an obvious, simple, and direct way to get from the Reader to my own dashboard! Bug fix soon, please?

I obviously didn’t express myself very well kamaliaetalia if you think my issue differed from yours. It was identical, ie. after I logged in the blue bar was blank except for the WP logo and a weird ‘log in’ button. No way of getting to my blogs or stats or dashboard – exactly as you describe.

If you read my reply, clearing my cache and cookies didn’t help me either. What cured it for me was unticking the ‘intranet’ box in my browser’s Compatability View settings. Then logging off, re-opening my browser, and logging back in again.

However, I don’t use Firefox and don’t know if it has similar compatability settings to Internet Explorer. I’m just a regular user, not tech help – maybe one of the techies/admin staff can help with compatability settings in Firefox?

The same happened to me. I changed my password twice. It worked as normal each time but only for a while. Later, I tried logging in without a password twice then used my new password and it worked. Clearly something is not right here.

No, something is not quite right. I had a completely different experience logging in from another account. It may be A/B testing but I’m going to tag this for some staff input.

@stevemie-your problem is not like those others here. Please open a separate topic by going here: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1

Please try clearing your browser cache.

If that doesn’t work, please post in this thread, so we can keep track of all of the reports in a single place:
