Why does the 'Tilde' symbol (~) becomes a dash symbol (-) on my blog comments?

  Why does WordPress turn the tilde symbol into a dash these days? So annoying for people discussing approximate temperatures for example. Please, pretty please, fix this.

  Hi Kardotim,
  Thanks for getting on the case. Curiously, I’m getting tildes in comments on the published site now, but they still appear as a dash in the dashboard view of comments.

  Actually, I do see a tilde symbol in the dashboard comments view at https://tallbloke.wordpress.com/wp-admin/comment.php?action=editcomment&c=74585

  Do you also encounter this issue in a different browser? for example Firefox or Internet Explorer?

  See it as a dash in chrome, firefox and i.e.

  Which browser are you seeing the tilde with?

  I’m using Chrome. We’ve tested on multiple computers and browser, and it’s all working fine. If you get the chance, please try looking to the comment using a different computer.

  Otherwise it might be possible that you’re missing a certain font on your computer. Please download and install this font: http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/download/open-sans

  It’s strange that you’re only seeing the issue in the dashboard though. Luckily it works fine on the site itself. At this point there is not much we can do to fix it because we can’t reproduce the issue. I’m keeping on eye on it though in case we get more reports like these.
