Why does upload audio "crunch" forever and fail to upload?

First of all, yes, I did buy the space upgrade for uploading audio.
Anyway, yesterday I tried uploading an audio file (mp3, 120MB), and repeatedly failed. The Flash uploader claimed the file was uploaded, but needed “crunching,” and spent hours upon hours (I tried several times, including leaving computer on overnight) supposedly crunching, but no file showed up in the media gallery.
I also tried the browser uploader, which failed without any error message after uploading about 10MB. In the past, this audio uploading worked, but I cannot figure out what’s wrong now.
I also tried with smaller sound files, with no success, so it doesn’t seem like a filesize issue. Please help.

Just making sure, are the audios you are trying to upload different from those four? Could you please also let me know which format the audio you’re uploading is in?

Well spotted. So I finally managed to upload some audio files, but thee two longer ones (60 and 120MB, recordings of long panel discussions etc.) not getting uploaded.

I tried again, and even a thirty megabyte recording fails by falling in that crunching trap. Your help will be very much appreciated.

That is rather odd. I’d like to rule-out a browser-specific issue.
Would you please try a different browser, like Chrome?

Good bet, staff-blorbo. I used Chrome, and the whole thing went through. Will file a firefox bug report, though I am not sure how helpful that will be, since I have no clue why some larger files went through while others didn’t. Last week and even today I uploaded far larger files (video) with that same browser with no problems.

I’m not entirely convinced that it’s a Firefox issue yet, as I’m having no trouble with Firefox 16.0.1, but at least know which direction to look.
Would you please try one more time in Firefox with all add-ons temporarily disabled?

So, I just tried again with a 40MB sound file, and it’s crunching, like before. Of course, it may not be a pure FF16 issue, but rather a confluence of two issues. I have no way to know.

Well, at least it’s working now. :)
If you run into trouble again, please try disabling all add-ons first.

So I just had more material to upload, and so I started firefox in safe mode, which disables all add ons, as you know. Anyway, it didn’t help. I get this “crunching” again, even though it was all of a 34MB file. I will now use Chrome for this, though I am sure all FF users will appreciate you finding out what the problem really is.
