Why does WordPress not support flash yet Blogger does?

Excuse my ignorance – I’m just starting with blogging and have been trying to decide between WordPress and Blogger. Blogger lets me add an Etsy.com widget but WordPress doesn’t. I’m slowly understanding it’s because WordPress doesn’t support flash/java widgets – just wondered why and if there’s anything I can do. I understand it’s something to do with security but why doesn’t that apply to Blogger?

It is a security issue that the staff have wordpress.com have chosen to control with the following policy. I don’t know why Blogger has more user control and one can only speculate. They either have larger controls in place or have managed a way around it. It is an issue here though. There are many threads on this if you search around as well, but since it is policy, it is not something likely to change!
