Why does WordPress Presentation Shortcode not work in Google Chrome?

  • Unknown's avatar

    My presentation shortcode works well when expanded to full size in IE and Firefox but not in Google Chrome unless I’m logged in. An example post is http://thepracticalpsychosomaticist.com/2013/08/21/making-presentation-slides-with-wordpress-shortcodes/

    Howdy Jim,

    I just tried to view the presentation you linked to in Google Chrome and it appeared just fine for me. Can you please confirm whether this is still a problem? If so, does the page simply not show? Does an error appear in its place? Is it just the slideshow that doesn’t appear?

    Hey, thanks; yes it’s still happening. The problem is that when I expand the slides to full screen (and I’m not logged in), each line of text is not separated by a space. Each line is pushed into the next, making it hard to read. Try it again, if you don’t mind. Jim,

    OK, now that I’m viewing it in full-screen, I’m seeing the issue you’re describing, and actually, I’m a little stumped by it. I think you may have uncovered a bug.

    I have raised this with our developers to see if they can look into it and see what the issue is. When I hear back from them, I will give you an update on what’s going on.

    Thanks for bringing it to our attention!

    Jim,

    Our developers have looked into this and got back to me and explained what the issue was. There is a CSS rule in your theme that is overriding the CSS in the presentation.

    In order to overcome this, we need to add a custom CSS rule to your site. To do that would usually require you to purchase the Custom Design upgrade @ $30/yr. However, because this is to help resolve an issue with your theme, I am giving the Custom Design upgrade to you for free: I have already applied it to your account.

    I have also already added the custom CSS rule to your site, so after you clear your cache, you should be able to see the presentation properly in full-screen now.

    For your reference, the CSS that we needed to add was:

    .presentation-wrapper {
        line-height: initial;
    }

    Hope you enjoy the free perks of the Custom Design upgrade. Consider it compensation for bringing this conflict to our attention :)

    If there’s anything else that I can help you with, please let me know. Thanks!

    Hi, the problem is fixed but it looks like my account was charged $30 dollars for the custom design upgrade. I could just be misreading it. I also got a short survey from WordPress asking me about my purchase of the upgrade. Could you please verify that you gave it to me for free? Thanks.

    Hi Jim,

    Yes I just double-checked your account and have confirmed that there are no transactions showing – these are probably just automated actions that happen when a user gets these upgrades added to their account (since they’re usually paid for).

    Of course, if you see any charges come through from us, let me know and I’ll look into it immediately and refund any charge that may have incurred. I do not believe this to be the case, but I can guarantee that you won’t be out of pocket.

    Let me know if there’s anything else I can do!

    Wow. You are the man. Thank you so much for all of your help.

    Not a problem. Thanks for bringing it to our attention and making it right.

    P.S. the developers are working on tweaking the presentation shortcode to prevent this conflict with other users, so you just made a lot of people’s lives easier too :)
