why does my post say “unknown blog” when I try to post something?

If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
If you are, please do these four things:
1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies: http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/
2. Make sure that you have third-party cookies enabled: http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
3. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.
4. Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.

I have the same problem. It worked a couple days ago, but now it won’t let me post and says “unknown_blog.” Rather than fiddling around with my browser settings, I tried other browsers (that had no cookies, no add-ons, etc.): I went from Chrome (with which wordpress has always worked fine until today), to Firefox, and then tried Safari. The fact that this problem is the same on all of my browsers, and is the same for someone else (on the same day), makes me strongly suspect that this issue is coming from the wordpress end.

Would you please try the steps above and let us know which browser (and version of) you’re using?
I can’t reproduce the problem, which means it works fine for me and I therefore have absolutely nothing to go on as far as getting this fixed.

Just tried ALL steps above. Using Safari on a Mac Air. Version 6.0.1. No success. This happened at my work too on a PC Lenovo. Just started today. Have had no problems. No software updates on my end sine Monday. Thank you for the quick reply.

Just tried downloading and using Opera and Firefox. Both had the same message in their browser.

I have not been able to post any photos all day today, it does download the pic, but when I hit ‘publish’, nothing happens. I have refreshed the page, and I have restarted my computer. I have never encountered this issue before. I don’t get the ‘unknown blogger’ though…

It did the unknown blog on mine because I have two blogs and didn’t specify which one I wanted it posted to. I worked on the blog for over an hour and now its gone I just want to retrieve it does anyone know a way. I tried backspacing I tried looking in drafts its just gone

This just happened to me as well. I hit publish and got the unknown_blog message and it didn’t publish. This is not a browser issue. It has to be on the WordPress end. I’m using the same browser I’ve been using for almost every post in a 366 day post project – latest version of Safari. This is the first time I’ve ever had a problem posting. Does anyone know what’s going on? I don’t want to miss my post. I’ve posted everyday since Jan 1.

I was just able to post. Yay! It wasn’t the type of browser I was using, but I did clear my cache, which sucks because now I have to build it all back up again, put in all my passwords, and wait for pages to load. Not sure if that’s what fixed the issue or if it is just a coincidence, but I recommend you try it. Thanks for the links, macmanx!

I was just able to update my blog on iPad App for WordPress. I also have it on my Android. I sometimes leave those devices logged in when not in use. I tried signing out of ALL the places that I update my blog thinking that it might be too many ports that are open. Have to wait for work tomorrow. Weird, but it still was able to update on iPad but not my Macbook. Can this be the problem? Strange that it just started happening today.

Same here. Please get this fixed! Something is obviously wrong on workpress’ end if everyone is having this problem on the same day.

Are you folks trying to publish via Posts -> Add New in your blog’s Dashboard or http://wordpress.com/#!/post/ ?

I got the unknown blog thing too. What I did was to go over to the left of the page, the WordPress “W”, clicked on it, chose my blog and loaded my photo from there. I thought that would take care of the problem but when I try to post directly from my blog page it still won’t let me. I guess I’ll have to continue to do it this way. Hope this helps!
