Why does Yahoo Search keep deleting my blog?
-
I have started two blogs about six weeks ago. Both of them almost immediately showed up on Google search, but only one, the minor one, popped up on Yahoo, within the first two weeks. However, it very soon disappeared without a trace. Now my other blog, which is my main blog, appeared on Yahoo earlier this week, and now it is gone, not simply buried far down, but unfindable using its name “blogblot.” I am clueless about SEO, but I suspect that I am being penalized because of two pages on my blog which are glossaries, they have many keywords with links. I don’t want to remove these pages. Can anyone give me advice?

Have you asked Yahoo? And yes, in all probability ALL the search engines are downgrading you because of the glossaries. They figure people can Google it themselves.

Yahoo will probably see these as unrelated links? One glossary has 50 links and the other has 90 links. Is there a general rule as to how many links a page could have before it gets punished for misbehavior? This is very discouraging.

I would suggest making those sub-pages. I can’t think of a search engine who wouldn;t consider it spam. There are limitations to spam protection, and unfortunately you’ve hit it.

I’ve got a post with 36 links which googles very highly, so I can’t put my finger on the limit, but if it’s in the form of a list rather than in-line links in paragraphs, you’re going to be more screwed than me.

Thanks raincoaster. I queried Yahoo, but I don’t suppose their answer will be any different. I guess I will try breaking up the glossaries and doing some pruning… :-(

I have pruned one of the glossaries and moved the links into the paragraphs. For the other glossary (which had almost one hundred links) I paginated it into four pages. Will this be enough to appease Yahoo? Should I also move the links away from the entry word in each entry in the glossary? Will Yahoo and google and others continue to punish me for the next year? and lastly … is there some reason why I should be ashamed of myself for having a glossary with one hundred links?

As to the last question, no. But when robots run the place, they make rules which don’t always work in human’s favour. Usually search engines re-jigger their standings quite regularly, certainly more often than annually, and any effects should show up within a couple of months at the outside. As to specifics, I can only speculate that this will help you, but time will tell for sure.
