Why doesn't "Following" send email notifications?

  Hi, we have setup a group blogging site. The site is “private”. We have instructed everyone to click the Follow link at the top left. We understood this would cause people to get an email when site content was changed or added. We’ve made about 15 posts over the last few weeks but no one is receiving any updates. I have verified the email addresses entered on the profiles are correct. Any ideas?
