Why doesn't our site show up when it is searched for, such as through Google?
-
No one can access our site if they Google it. Our consultant says that the URL has not been set up correctly, that our we get to our website through firstbaptistwaterloo.org instead of http://www.firstbaptistwaterloo.org
What is involved in correcting this?
Thank you!

We actually strip out the www. for your convenience and http://firstbaptistwaterloo.org/ will redirect to http://www.firstbaptistwaterloo.org/ This has no effect on search engine placement.
www is an old protocol from back when everything was under a separate server. www (www.example.com) was the web server, mail (mail.example.com) was the mail server, ftp (ftp.example.com) was the FTP server, print (print.example.com) was the print server, etc.
These days, everything is run under the web server, making www. redundant and a waste of four characters.
With that said, we have absolutely no control over Google or their index. For more information about WordPress.com and Search Engines, please see http://support.wordpress.com/search-engines/
