Why Doesn't SoundCloud Audio Player Work?

  I read about embedding SoundCloud holiday music in Ben Huberman’s Dec 2nd email to all WP users. Sounded good.

  I followed all the steps in your SC Audio Player support document:

  Here’s the shortcode for the song I’m trying to embed. I copied it from the SoundCloud site after clicking on “Share,” and then “WordPress”:

  I embedded the code at the end of a new post I’m writing. When I preview the post, I see
  a block graphic that says “Couldn’t connect to the server. Please try again later. SoundCloud.”

  It’s the same unhelpful block graphic that appears in your SC Audio Player support document (and is never explained).

  I know there’s nothing wrong with the SoundCloud site because I successfully played the song there before copying the code.

  Why isn’t the shortcode working?

  Is there something else I need that your SC Audio Player support document isn’t telling me?

  Could you please send the link of the post of page of here you tried to embed the SoundCloud player?

  I got impatient yesterday, and yanked the SoundCloud shortcode and published the post without it.

  I just added the shortcode back in (at the very end), and updated the post. Here’s the link:

  Street Musician Plays Christmas Music, Soothes The Savage Sleigh-Beast

  When I clicked to view the updated post, my Safari browser warned me that it couldn’t verify soundcloud.com. I clicked “Continue,” and it went ahead and loaded the post.

  The shortcode still doesn’t work. All I see is the message: “Couldn’t connect to the server. Please try again later. SoundCloud”

  I’m now thinking my browser is the problem. I’m on an older iMac, and I’m maxed out at Safari Version 4.1.3. It may be too old to handle the SoundCloud connection. Still seems odd that I could play the song on the SoundCloud site itself, however.

  I took a look and everything is working properly.

  Do you also encounter this issue in a different browser? for example Firefox or Google Chrome?

  @kardotim:

  I see it’s working fine in Firefox, which is my only other browser. I was even able to go in and add the extra parameters to the SoundCloud shortcode to trigger automatic play and suppress comments.

  So the problem was really with my old Safari browser, which is good to know.
