Why doesn't the cropping rectangle appear when I upload a header image?
-
I want to change my custom header, but when I upload my image, the cropping rectangle doesn’t appear on the screen so I can’t select the appropriate part of the image or edit it in any way.

Have you considered doing all your image optimization and resizing prior to uploading the images?
desktop image editing software > http://en.support.wordpress.com/media/image-optimization/#image-editing-software
online image editing software http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2009/11/28/ten-free-online-image-compression-and-optimzation-programs/That’s what I do. I get better image quality. I don’t waste my image storage space and I don’t have to do any image troubleshooting at all.

I’ve looked at the support doc here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/image-editing/ and I’m wondering if the browser version you are using is a factor in the nonappearance of the cropping rectangle. Which browser and version of it are you using? If you aren’t sure click here to find out > http://whatsmyuseragent.com/
Note: If you are using an IE9 browser in compatibility mode that makes it render as IE7 and IE7 is not supported. To disable see > http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
Have you tried clearing your browser cache and cookies? http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
If required you can upgrade the browser to the latest stable version here http://browsehappy.com/

The same idea occurred to me–upload an image that’s already sized for the header. The header page gave me the correct pixel sizing for the image. I have Photoshop Elements so I figured out how to do it using that program instead and uploaded the cropped pic. Love how it turned out!
