Why doesn't the Link Editor dialog include all its fields in Firefox or Chromium
-
Up to this point, the Insert/Edit Link dialog has included a set of fields under “Link to Existing Content”. For some reason, not only have those fields vanished, but the option to select those fields has also vanished. A screen capture of the dialog box is at:

I have signed out & back in, flushed the cache, deleted the cookies, refreshed the page, done the usual stuff, all to no avail. The dialog appears to be one of those non-HTML things that cannot be resized, repositioned, or manipulated. Tabbing through the fields doesn’t go anywhere other than the visible items.
This happens on both Chromium and Firefox, under Linux.
However, using Firefox on Win 7, there’s a line just below the “Open Link in New Window/Tab” with the option to display those fields, so perhaps it’s a formatting issue in Linux.
Setting that option to display the fields on Win 7, signing out, then signing in on my Linux box, produces this layout with the option line sliced off at the bottom and no search box:

So it really does look like a layout problem on Linux. Oddly enough, there was no problem until today; I regularly used the Search box to find previous posts. Something has evidently changed, although it doesn’t seem to be under my control.
If there’s any way to make that dialog box just a wee bit taller, I think that would solve the problem. Making it resizeable by the user would be wonderful.
Thanks…

I can’t seem to reproduce your issue in Linux using Firefox and Chromium. Could you try to reset the zoom level in your browser and see if that helps?

Chrome: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/96810?hl=en -
Yup, that works, although I must zoom to 150% to reveal all the fields, which is definitely not the setting I was using before:

Zooming to 150% on a 27 inch 2560×1440 monitor is, let us say, spectacular. I could read that from across the room, but zooming the post editor to that size renders it pretty much useless.
Would it be possible to make the dialog box respond to the actual font size, so that the layout tracks my UI rather than yours? It’s one of those annoying accessibility issues that WordPress really should pay more attention to.
Thanks…

If I understand correctly you say that if you zoom to 150% you see all fields, and if you reset the zoom you don’t? Normally you should be able to see all fields, especially when the zoom level is reset. Are you perhaps using any other software or browser settings to increase your font size?
I’ve just did a few more tests but I can’t reproduce the issue. Whenever I resize the window or zoom I get a scrollbar on the side for the content that doesn’t fit inside the box.
Looking forward to your reply.

Yup, that’s correct: the dialog layout doesn’t track the zoom level.
Here’s a series of screenshots with Zoom from 75% to 125% that shows the problem with the dialog box layout:
Fairly obviously, the scroll bars only apply to the list of posts in the bottom half of the dialog. The upper half, with all the fixed fields, is completely unresponsive.
I have the font size set to Huge, which may make a difference, but that really shouldn’t matter…

It seems you’ve changed the minimum font size in your browser. This setting affects the responsive design in a way we can’t account for in the design, therefore I recommend using the zoom option instead.
Please let us know if you need any further assistance!

Responsive. “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”
The reason I tweak the font size is so I can read the words on the screen. It’s an accessibility issue, not a random choice.
Here’s what Medium font size looks like at 100% Zoom:
That’s about half of the 2560×1440 monitor and it’s pretty much unreadable from a meter away, which is where I’m sitting. I can make it out, but my eyes can’t take that much effort for long. Make it 33 cm tall or 31 cm wide, hold it a meter away, and see.
Here’s Medium font at 150% Zoom, which is what you want me to use:
The reason I don’t use that combination is that your “responsive” design has poor information density; if I could adjust the column widths, that would be a major win. As it stands, there’s way too much whitespace around the half-dozen posts visible at one time.
Here’s Huge font at 100% Zoom, which is close to what I normally use:
Readable characters, more posts, better layout, less whitespace. I’d prefer a larger font, but that doesn’t work well with the layout.
Alas, it seems the “responsive” design can’t respond to an ordinary user’s choice of font and zoom.
In lieu of a design that actually responds to the UI settings, could you add scroll bars to the upper part of the dialog, so I could at least get access to the missing fields? Even better, could you make it respond to the Tab key, so that it brings the active field into view?
Either would be better than the current layout that hides active fields, doesn’t respond to Tab, and has no keyboard shortcuts.
Please?
Not everybody can use the same UI settings you do and not all of us can get new eyeballs to match your expectations.
Thanks…

If possible, please use normal font setting in zoom instead, it’ll give you a better experience. Our developers registered your suggestion and will keep it in mind for future features and updates.
