Why don't I have a "Main Sidebar" for my widgets?
-
The only sidebar options I have are primary sidebar, secondary sidebar, and three footers. I dragged all of my widgets into the primary sidebar but they did not appear on my blog. When I looked at what I was doing wrong, I noticed I was supposed to have a main sidebar option to drag widgets to. How can I get a “Main Sidebar”?

There are five layout choices are available for this theme. You will find the name of the theme in your footer is a link to the theme description for it here http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/adventure-journal/ There’s also a live demo site here > http://adventurejournaldemo.wordpress.com/

Some of the newer themes are configurable and the front page can display in a number of ways. Is yours?

Thanks for your help! @raincoaster My theme is the adventure journal so I’m not sure if it is new. @timethief I like the layout of the demo site but how do I get mine like that? It doesn’t do anything when I drag my widgets to the “Primary Sidebar”.

If you cannot drag and drop then that sounds like browser issue to me. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
Note: If you are using an IE9 browser in compatibility mode that makes it render as IE7 and IE7 is not supported. To disable see > http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
If you are, please do these four things:
1. Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
2. Make sure that you have third-party cookies enabled http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
3. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.
4. Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
If you are not successful let us know which browser (and version of it) you’re using and post any error reports you get.

There are hits to be garnered by anyone who goes through the newer themes and gives instructions on how to set up your blog like that. LOTS of hits.

I again thank you both for helping me! I’m new to this! @timethief I can drop the widgets into the Primary Sidebar and I thought I saved it. Everything looks like it should work in my dashboard. However, when I view my blog, the widgets aren’t there. There are individual save buttons in each of the widgets but no other save buttons. I tried saving each individual one as well and it still didn’t work. Can you give me a step by step to make sure I’m doing everything right? I really appreciate you helping me! :)

Timethief has answered from the start: the theme has five different layouts. At the moment you’re using the no-sidebar layout. You go to Appearance > Theme Options and select one of the sidebar layouts.
