Why don't posts show on my posts page, only listed in the recent posts widget?

  I expected posts to show in reverse order of date, either the whole post or a part of it. Instead they show up on the widget of recent posts. I am very new at this and very untechnical, so assume I am doing something wrong. What?

  You’ve set your front to display a static intro page. You also created another page, titled “Posts”, but at the moment it’s just a plain static page: you need to go to Settings > Reading and set that page as your posts page.
