Why don't the links I insert in my post work/why can't I link in visual editing?

  I’m editing a post and I’m having trouble with links. When I add a link to an outside website using text edit it appears my link has been inserted but when I preview it, there’s nothing there. Then I tried to link to some of my previous posts and have the same problem. I switched to visual editing and the button to link is grayed out, so I can’t even use it. I just cleared my browser history and cache but it didn’t work. I previously have linked to outside websites without a problem. I’m using Google Chrome. Any ideas?

  First you type the word or phrase that should work as the link, then you click the Link tool to paste the address.
