Why don't view statistics show up when a post has been viewed?
-
I’m just curious…whenever I post something new, I get emails and notifications about new followers and people liking it, but the statistics for views doesn’t reflect them. It stays at zero. Why is that?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Howdy!
First, please note, the stats page may not always update instantly when someone views one of your posts. It can take 15 or so minutes before views are reflected. So, it may just be a latency situation.
Another thing to keep in mind is that your front page displays the full blog post content with the sharing buttons. So, readers do not need to click on individual blog posts to see the full content or to share the article. In some ways, this can cloud up the inferences from the stats page as you can’t see how many times an individual article was viewed. If you would like to break your content up so that readers must click on the full article, you could use the More tag described here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/
Also, if readers are following your blog in the WordPress.com Reader, it’s entirely possible that they’re clicking “Like” without clicking to open the full blog post. For example, in the blog post below, you’ll see that only a portion of the post is shown in the Reader (34 more words):

However, visitors could still like the post from the button at the bottom of the block. In this case, a “Like” could register, but a view would not be counted unless the reader clicked to open up the full blog post. Does that make sense?

Yes, it makes sense. It was odd that people were emailing me and discussing the post as though they’d read the entire thing…which I think means they had to open it. And this was all taking place two days ago, so I didn’t think it was a matter of a time lag. The views still haven’t shown up.
Anyway…thanks for the info! -
Hi there,
Just to clarify, when viewers check out your post from an email subscriber notification, those email views are not counted in your stats. The view would only be counted in the stats if they clicked to visit the post on your site. Is it possible that they read the post from a subscriber notification rather than directly from your site?
-
Definitely possible. Most of them were already followers, I think, so they could do that.
I’m not going to worry about it. I’m just curious.

Sounds great! Well, if you experience anything abnormal with your stats moving forward, please let me know. I’m happy to investigate further!
