Why don't Viewers of my private blog receive email notifications?

    Why don’t Viewers of my private blog receive emails?

    * I changed Settings -> Reading -> Site Visibility to “I would like my site to be private, visible only to myself and users I choose”
    * In Users -> Invite New, I entered several email addresses, set Role = Viewer and clicked Send Invitation. I entered another of my email addresses
    I logged out of WordPress.com, in preparation for logging in via a new account.
    * In my other email account,,
    I received an email: “<user> invited you to be a viewer of <blog>”.
    – I clicked on the link to sign up for WordPress.com account
    I received an email: “Activate <accountname>‏”
    – I clicked on the “Activate Account” link
    I received an email: “New WordPress.com User: <accountname>”
    – I went back to the “<user> invited you to be a viewer of <blog>” email and clicked on the “Accept Invitation” link.
    I received an email: “You have been added to <blog>”

    I logged out of WordPress.com, and logged in via my usual Owner/Author account.
    I created a new post called “Test”.
    In my author email account inbox, I received a notification email: “[New post] Test”
    In my other email address inbox, I received NO notification email. Even after over 12 hours, NO notification email was received. I checked the “Junk” folder – no emails went in there accidentally.

    In WordPress.com, I went back to Settings -> Reading, and confirmed that under “Users allowed to access site”, the current site members list contained my other email address.

    I looked for help on the internet and on the support site, but could not find anything to help me with this problem.

    It seems like emails are NOT being sent out to the Viewers of my blog. Is this a problem with WordPress.com?

    Hi there. As far as I know, viewers don’t automatically receive email notifications. Accepting the invitation merely enables them to view the blog and they have to sign up to receive post notifications via email, either via the blog subscription widget (if you have one), or by going to their Reader, clicking Edit next to Blogs I Follow, and enabling notifications for your blog. http://en.support.wordpress.com/following/#manage-email-and-im-settings-for-specific-blogs
