Why get my own comments spam, and why cant I comment???

I rate something as common if it happens to bloggers often enough that it shows up in the forum on a daily basis. Calling this common is no reflection on Aksimet: the number of spams it stops is anything but common, it’s phenomenal. But what I am focused on is the bloggers, and saying “don’t sweat it, this happens a lot” does calm them down and put things in perspective. If you blog daily for six months and reply to comments in a new comment it WILL happen to you. It’s happened to me half a dozen times and I’ve only been here a year and a bit.

go to bed a little earlier yesterday and commongate breaks out! =)

looks like there are two schools of thought. one says in comparison to the 6 million spam on average caught a day, the few threads reporting of akismet errors is not common. the other says in comparison to the threads reporting of akismet errors on average twice a day, it is quite common. neither wrong, neither right, i guess it just boils down to which school of thought one subscribes to.

should a similar situation occur in the future, would it be more appropriate if i use a phrase like this is an issue that has occured before in attempt of reassuring op? saying it’s (relatively) common without using the word common.

    This is what Mark said:

    (1) On Akismet is marking my own comments as spam.
All people need to know is that it can be fixed and to use either of the contact forms.

    (2) On how to handle API and “stats plugin queries”?
They must be an admin on the blog that they key comes from. If people shared their key then that would cause an error. They need their own key, deactivate the plugin, reactivate then put their key in.
API key not working. The Akismet FAQ has the answers. And they must be using the latest WP release.

well, it happened to me, i.e., my comments were marked as spams and I could not post a comment at any blogsites-not even in non-wordpress blogs! really odd.

How do you know they got marked as spam? Also do these other non-wordpress sites use Akismet? May want to check on that. If you have access, per teh thread that you post in, make sure that you mark them as nonspam and send them in for review. if you’re not doing that, you’re just making the problem worse instead of trying to make it better.

after discovering this forum, i checked on the spammed comments where I found my comments marked as spam. Yes, i already did “de-spam” my comments. Also, I went to the website of akismet to report on this. only after doing these (de-spamming my comments and reporting to akismet) was i able to comment again on various blogs on wordpress.

As to the non-wordpress site, i’m not sure whether they use akismet but i was able to post comments after doing de-spam and report. will do as advised. thanks. :)

Cool. Glad you got it working.

Akismet always pulls my comments to my own blog as spam. I have been telling it for a couple of months that these comments are not spam, taking them out of the queue, but it still does it. My comments to other wordpress blogs are also pulled out by Akismet. I know this because other bloggers have told me that they found my comments in their spam queues. Can something be done about this? I have contacted Akismet (two days ago) and gotten no response. Help!

try contacting support here (support[at]wordpress.com) with as much detail as possible – your username, email address, examples of spammed comments, etc.

There is a sticky thread at the very top of the forum on this issue (and related ones) as well.
