Why GoDaddy??

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m new to all this, but lately I made few sites on GoDaddy, and I lost everything for forgetting to renew my account (my Bad), so I was wondering, why to use GoDaddy?? Why to pay them for using WP and not pay WP directly!?? I do understand that they will HOST the sites, but still!!

When I lost my sites, I logged into WP directly, but found nothing!! So, why can’t I find what I did on GoDaddy, on WP site (when I log in using same log in details)!!

I NEED HELP, i’m completely lost!!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You’re asking a rival web host why you’d use GoDaddy? I dunno. If you don’t have brain damage, why WOULD you use the world’s worst web hosts?

    Read this: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Even if you want WP.org, choose a different host. The horror stories about GoDaddy are legend.

I now have like 4 different accounts!! And I lost everything, and when I asked them for a solution, they said I must pay $150 to retrieve it!!

As I said, I’m very new to all this, and i’m learning on the go.

I’m looking at the link you sent now, but please suggest some good HOSTing service.

    Thank You.

WordPress.com. Which is already hosting a blog for you, as you can see by the link in your post.

I just read it! which I should have before going to godaddy!!

Now, the accounts I created in godaddy stays there, right?? Or it also available at WP.com?

Is there any monthly fees instead of yearly (a bit too expensive for me)

Thanks a million for the help

Anything you did at GoDaddy has nothing to do with WP.com. They are completely separate.

There is no monthly option for upgrades. You do not need upgrades in order to blog here. I don’t recommend buying upgrades for at least the first month. If you just want to use a domain name you registered elsewhere, all you need is the $13 Domain Mapping upgrade.

You can Export your Godaddy content and Import it to here. Just go to the Support docs and type in Import and it’ll give you the instructions http://support.wordpress.com/

    Oh! Ok.

So, what I need to do is to recreate the websites that I’ve created on godaddy, and upload them to a server (maybe on WP) – using the domains that I have purchased earlier from godaddy (which I would be more than happy to move else where). And you’re saying that I do not have to pay money to do any of these (at least during the creating process)?

I’m sorry for taking a lot of your time!
    Very much appreciated.

    Thank you.

    That’s not correct.

You have to pay money to attach your custom domain to a WP.com blog. You can import your blog content for free to a WP.com blog.

Oh! Fine, I guess I should read a bit more, before asking more questions!

    Many many thanks.

You’re welcome. Go through http://learn.wordpress.com as well.

I have just joined this conversation and am sorry I did not see this before going to GoDaddy.

I have just registered my domain name (not AfricanDream01) for a website I want to start.

I was originally going to ask how to go about using WordPress (I don’t like GoDaddy’s templates anyway) if my domain is registered with GoDaddy but now that I have read the comments here my new question is:

Is there anyway I can move my domain registration NOW to WordPress before I even start setting up my website and if so, what would the cost implications be?

  • Unknown's avatar

You can’t move the registration to WP.com. You keep it at GoDaddy and pay $13 a year to WP.com for domain mapping to use it with your WP.com blog.

Wonderful news thank you. WordPress so much easier to navigate and love the c choice of templates. So how do I go about doing the domain mapping? So excited now.

Put “Domain mapping” in the search box in the Support documents http://support.wordpress.com/
