Why have all my photos on Booklite suddenly gone blurry?
-
Hi, I’ve noticed the Booklite theme has suddenly required that I resize all my photos before uploading them. This is fine, but all the photos on previous posts have now gone blurry where before they had been perfectly clear. Is there a quick fix for rectifying this, or do I need to manually resize and upload all previous photos posted for the last year of blogging?
There have also been other small formatting problems recently, where previously the theme was very user-friendly. Has it been modified? Apologies for my ignorance – please explain in the simplest of terms!

Hi jx, can you point me to a post that has a fuzzy image? I’ve looked through the posts on the first couple of pages and they all look clean and crisp to me.
As far as changes to the theme, I don’t believe anything has changed, but there has been an update to the WordPress software and some other changes to things here at WordPress.com (added and improved features). Can you be more specific on what is not as user friendly?

Hi, thanks for the quick reply.
I’ve resized all the photos for the last two posts before uploading them (not something I ever needed to do before), which has resulted in these recent images not being fuzzy. Photos on all previous posts have now gone fuzzy though, such as this post just before: http://cocktailsandcountrytales.wordpress.com/2014/03/13/spring-outfit-vintage-roses-and-bronze-antlers/
The header photo on my home page (http://cocktailsandcountrytales.wordpress.com/) also now looks pixellated/ fuzzy where previously it was perfectly clear, though strangely none of the header-photos on the other pages have changed so far (http://cocktailsandcountrytales.wordpress.com/country/)
In terms of being user friendly, previously I could add thumbnails to pages and the bottom of each post, and then text after these. Now these thumbnails sometimes jump around the page rather than remaining where I put them (usually juxtaposed to the left, one above the other with neat spaces in between), and will overlap or the wrong text will arbitrarily move next to the wrong image. Often it will refuse to add spaces between the thumbnails on the preview so it looks all jumbled up, but then the spaces will show up on the published post…
Advice on the fuzzy photos in particular very much appreciated!

On the spring outfit post, I’m not seeing any real degradation in the images in that post. One thing I did notice is that you are uploading very, very, large images and the WordPress software is then having to downsize that image to fit in the available space in your theme. Since virtually no one has a 3200 x 4900px monitor, there really isn’t a reason to upload anything that large. I would suggest downsizing the images in your image editing program (which does a much better job) and then uploading and inserting those. I generally stick with images no bigger than 1000px in width for landscape orientation or 1000px in height for portrait. That is a good size for most laptops.
The header image on your main page looks pretty good to me, but then again, I didn’t see what it looked like before. The header image, when I view it in Chrome looks a little fuzzier than when I view it in Safari or Firefox though.
On the thumbnail placement issue, do you have a link to a page where they are aligned as you would like them so I can take a look at it?

I’ve just gone back and checked through the old posts and the blurriness problem has disappeared since I last messaged you… I can only assume it was a temporary glitch, but can’t even begin to guess at the cause. I’ll resize images before uploading them from now on (I didn’t know how to before, so was just uploading the original photos).
This is one of the pages I’m having trouble aligning thumbnails on: http://cocktailsandcountrytales.wordpress.com/country/
You can see the old ones are all neatly spaced out, but I’ve had real trouble with the more recent ones – without ending up with large spaces between them, the thumbnails would actually overlap.

You have some inconsistency in how the images and text were inserted into that page. In the first four, you inserted the images first as left-aligned, entered the text and then put a couple of blank paragraphs below them (hit return).
In the third one down, you have three blank paragraphs between it and the fourth instead of two.
In the fifth and all the rest, you have line height style attributes set, and have inserted the image with an alignment of “none” as opposed to left in the first 4, which is why the text is at the lower edge instead of the top edge of the image.
1. Edit that page, and on the fifth image and below, edit the images (click on image and click on edit icon) and set the alignment to left.
2. Put the same number of blank paragraphs between each image/link set.
3. In the fifth, you have an empty span with a line height style attribute in it. Delete that.
4. Delete the line height style attributes from anywhere you find them in the code.
