Why have multiple blogs been generated?
-
Dear support community,
I have created a new blog and paid for a personalised domain name, i.e. akitcheniniceland.com
After generating my new blog, I left the wordpress site for a day or two. When I returned, a found that instead of one blog bearing the name ‘akitcheniniceland’ I now have three. There doesn’t seem to be a way for me to delete the two extra blogs. When I click on these two blogs I am taken to a ‘nothing found’ page.
Is there a way to delete these two extra blogs?
Many thanks.
Ethna

Hi Ethna –
It looks like you registered your domain through the sign-up form, rather than through your existing blog’s Dashboard. When you do this, it auto-creates a blog with a similar URL to the domain you’re registering. Currently, you have the following:
http://akitcheninicelanddotcom.wordpress.com/
http://akitcheniniceland.com/ mapped to akitcheninicelanddotcom1.wordpress.com
http://akitcheniniceland.wordpress.com/You can delete the unwanted blogs in this way:
Delete SiteHowever, if you think you ever might want to use the username akitcheniniceland, I wouldn’t delete http://akitcheniniceland.wordpress.com/ as that will also delete the username, which can never be used again. Rather, you can set that blog to private:
Privacy SettingsIf you meant to use your domain with that URL, I can move the domain for you, but you’ll need to set up your theme/header image/widgets again on that new site since you’ve currently set them up on akitcheninicelanddotcom1.wordpress.com
Just let me know!

Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly. I don’t really understand how the system works enough to answer your question. I can tell you what I wanted initially though. I wanted to set up a new blog with the domain name ‘akitcheniniceland.com’. So, whatever you need to do to protect that domain name while deleting the additional sites, I would be very happy with. Also, I am quite happy to set the site up again if I need to. Thank you again and greetings from Iceland ;)

Hi there – You just need to decide if you’d like to keep this blog as is:
http://akitcheniniceland.com/That blog has the underlying URL of akitcheninicelanddotcom1.wordpress.com.
Or would you rather I move the domain akitcheniniceland.com to the URL of akitcheniniceland.wordpress.com and then you can set up your theme again on that site?
There’s no real difference, but you might prefer to have the underlying URL that matches your domain.
Just let me know either way and I’ll take care of it for you. :)

Hæ hæ, I think I would prefer to have the underlying URL match my ‘kitcheniniceland’ domain. Thank you so much for your help. Are you able to also delete the additional (unwanted) blogs mapped to that domain?
-
Sure thing! I moved the domain and deleted the duplicate blogs. Your site is now here:
http://akitcheniniceland.com/Let me know if you need any further help with setting things up!
