WHY have my Categories disappeared? How do I get all of my Categories back?

  WHY have my Categories disappeared? How do I get all of my Categories back? I did not delete anything. The only thing I did was clean up my typographical errors and remove Categories that I did not need, et cetera.
  The “subcontracted ” guy who answers the toll free number showed me how to do it. Now, he says WordPress says I have to pay to get my Category list back!! That’s not fair!

  try going to customize -> widgets
  choose where you want them to show up (like in your sidebar)
  click “+ Add a Widget”
  select “categories”
  choose how you want it displayed, then “save and publish”
