Why have my posts disappeared?

  • Unknown's avatar

Two posts that I published a couple of weeks ago have disappeared from my blog, Cate Speaks. I know that they were there before, because I copied links to my Facebook Page, and the links still show the first couple of sentences, but when I click on the Facebook link I get a ‘page not found’ message, and when I look in ‘my posts’ on WordPress they are both there as blank, empty drafts.

Do you have any idea where they could have gone, or how I can get them back? This makes me very nervous about anything else I’m posting.

Catherine, could you please provide me with the links to the missing posts? Thanks very much!

    Hi Robyn,

Sorry about the delay getting back to you – busy time of year!

The links are below, however as I did manage to find at least part of the initial posts in a Google cache, I restored what I could, with the original post date – so I’m not sure if I’ve now made it impossible for you to find why they disappeared.

Honestly, I’d mostly like to know what happened so that I can prevent it happening again. It’s distressing to put a lot of work into an article, post it, have it appear on the blog, and then realise several days later that it simply isn’t there any more…

    Hi there,

I’m very sorry this has happened to you.

Both of those links go to active posts with content. If that’s due to you recreating them, that has made it a bit more difficult to track this down.

Looking at the URLs, there is no -2 after the titles, making me think that these are original posts (there would be a -2 if you reused the same title for a second post). I also don’t see any record of posts saved and then deleted during the period that these were written. That leads me to suspect that for some reason, the posts were never saved in our system.

In the future, if you’re composing lengthy posts, I’d recommend always saving drafts of your posts as you write, to make sure they are saved in the system.

If you run into this issue again in the future, please let us know before you republish the posts, with the title of the post and a link if you have one, plus any other details like a Google cached record or a screenshot of the post on Facebook. Then I can take a further look and report it to our developers if necessary.
