Why have you removed the icon that tells you the post format (std, gallery, img)
-
Why have you removed the icon that tells you if a post is standard, gallery, etc. On my all posts page, there was ( as of yesterday) an icon at the left that IMMEDIATELY you could look at and see the format… IN THE POST list. Now I have to open up each post to see the format. BRING BACK THE ICON IN THE POST LIST PLEASE PLEASE!!!!
Every time you make these changes it makes it harder for me to do my blog.
Note I’m using this post list (for my blog): https://kauilapele.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Good morning –
Thanks for getting in touch. I can still see the post format option on the right hand side of the screen from https://kauilapele.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php. You may need to scroll down depending on your screen size.
It sounds like you’re referring to something different possibly. To clarify, you’re talking about a column in the post list that indicated the post type. Like how there’s a tags, categories, likes and comments column in that view?

That is NOT what I’m referring to. Check this image:
https://tinyurl.com/y388fehgJust to the left of post titles list, there is now a check box to the left of each post. THAT is where the icon used to be which told you whether the post format was in “standard” or “image” or “gallery” mode. It was VERY easy to see. Now there is NO indication for each post what the format is.
What you addressed above is now (I believe) a new item on the right that allows you to filter posts via the format. That is much less useful to me than having the “standard” or “image” or “gallery” icon next to each post.
Why was this changed?

One more note about the “formats” drop down menu. All I see there is “gallery” and “image”. I would also like to see “standard” in that list. Why is that not included?
When I post an article, it is always in “standard” format. Later, I like to “compactify” the blog home page by converting the “standard” to “gallery”. So it is more useful to me to see what posts are in “standard” format so I’d know what to change to “gallery”.
Anyway, I’m surprised that “standard” is NOT part of that drop down.
Thank you for your help.

Hi there,
The update/change was due to an accessibility concerns:

Hi, we did some digging. This was changed in WordPress core itself, and you can read the whole conversation here:
https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/46591
This use case is interesting:
When I post an article, it is always in “standard” format. Later, I like to “compactify” the blog home page by converting the “standard” to “gallery”. So it is more useful to me to see what posts are in “standard” format so I’d know what to change to “gallery”.
If you’d like, we could file a request about this, citing your usage here, and ask either that the drop down change, or the icons be returned, or both. I can’t promise that one request would make them change anything, but if others are having the same issues they’d likely add their feedback as well. Would you like us to do that?

Thank you for the message, but I am NOT seeing why this helps “accessibility concerns”. The lack of small icons mean I must do more work to EASILY see what the post format is.
Also,
https://build.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/44792/
states “Introduce a dedicated ‘Formats’ drop-down filter as a replacement.”But the “Formats drop down” does NOT include all of the formats. The Formats that I currently view on the individual post pages are:
Standard
Aside
Image
Video
Quote
Link
GalleryBut the drop down contains only ONE of them:
GalleryIt would be MUCH better to have ALL of the formats in the drop down.
As far as I’m concerned, as a 10-year WordPress user, this change has made thing WORSE, for me, the user.

And for @supernovia’s reply, yes I would like to request that the the “both” option be requested.
1. the drop down change to include ALL post formats available,
AND
2. that the icons be returned to the “all posts” list page.Anyway, appreciate all of your responses. I still love and recommend WordPress to all who are considering doing a blog.
Aloha, Kp
