Why I cannot find the Page Attributes under Publish, as shown in Support pages?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello – I have been going through the support pages, trying to customize my blog. My problem is that I cannot find the same buttons, modules, etc as shown in your tutorials. I can’t find, for instance, Page Attributes under Publish: I can find Format, Categories, Tags, but there is no mention of page attributes, parent and child pages, templates and order – like shown in the tutorial. I am using Edin theme. Can you elaborate on that?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Exactly which tutorial are your referring to? Please post the link here.

same problem here. did you get a fix?

    @ patternsofsouldevelopment,
    @ innonational,

Are you referring to a WordPress.com website?

On WordPress.com websites, the Page Attributes module should appear by default directly beneath the Publish module on every page editor. Since these modules are mobile they may be moved to a different location on the page editor. The other reason why it might not appear is that it might be disabled at Screen Options. Open your Screen Options at the top of the page editor and place a check in the box next to Page Attributes if it’s not already checked.

And to be clear, you are talking about PAGE Attributes, which only appear on Pages and not on Posts. https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-attributes/

Format, Categories, Tags and the like all appear on Posts, not Pages.

Thank you, justjennifer, thanks, rootosh; I did look in the Pages: under Screen Options all I got is: author; stats; comments; [star]; date – there’s no attributes.

Btw, is it normal to only have only one page figured inside PAGES, under Pages-Add New

, all I got is 1 page, which is,

    About

    ?

As to my previous thread on this Support, I did answer to musicdoc1 and innonacional that I didn’t find them; however, now I opened your link for the thread and my answer doesn’t appear, while I was waiting for a response – I understand now that my issue has been considered as solved at the time.

One more thing: for a 2nd time I see that my edited post doesn’t appear – in my mail what I get is the version pre-edit??

About the country, what can I say? I live in Lebanon, and we can pay on Amazon, etc…

Under PAGES,Add New, all I got is: 1 page: the about page.

I can’t find, for instance, Page Attributes under Publish

At Pages > Add New, click the Add New tab to get to a fresh page editor.

At Pages > All Pages, bring the cursor pointer over the title “About” to reveal the options. Click edit to view the page editor, which will look like this: http://snag.gy/WKyci.jpg. In the screen shot, the arrow points to the Page Attributes module.

Under PAGES,Add New, all I got is: 1 page: the about page

The About page is not under Add New.

No. You shouldn’t have any pages under Pages > Add New.

One more thing: for a 2nd time I see that my edited post doesn’t appear…

You won’t get emails notifications for edits.

Every WordPress site comes preconfigured with the About page. You can find it under Dashboard>Pages>All Pages or even if you just click the Pages link in the Classic Dashboard on your site.

Clicking Dashboard>Pages>Add New, will bring you directly to the Page Editor. That is where you will see the Page Attributes module. (another screenshot)

If you aren’t seeing it like the screenshot that both musicdoc1 and I provided, then please let us know what browser and version you are using You can find that here: http://whatbrowser.org/ Also, are you using the new Blue Dashboard or your site’s Classic Dashboard like in our screenshots.

As far as payment goes, see my answer in your other thread. But again, you don’t need to upgrade in order to get the Page Attributes module.

Thanks, justjennifer, with my warmest hugs; I have finally found it with the Add New button, as you said.
But the reason I need to “go premium” is that I am really on shaky terrain here, as the smallest detail (yes, I am using the older version, not really into the new one) makes me fall and lose days, even weeks (it just happened) is that I really need guidance outside the tutorials and walkthroughs. Thanks again

I am using the older version, not really into the new one

There are not optional versions available to WordPress.com users. Everybody has the same version. WordPress.org users have such options.

  • Unknown's avatar

Oh, did you mean the old post editor? Sorry. I thought you meant older WordPress version.

@patternsofsouldevelopment Glad we could help you get it sorted out. :)

As far as Premium having more guidance, yes you do have more support options than with a free site. Here again, I would suggest looking at the resources available for free before buying an annual upgrade:
    https://learn.wordpress.com/
https://en.support.wordpress.com/ and use, use, use the search box.

The odds that someone has already asked your question in the forums are quite high, and you can use the Forums search box (at the top of every page) and the Forums Tags page to find previous discussions on a particular topic. I would take forum threads older than 6 months with a grain of salt because things change around here quickly.

And these are mostly peer-to-peer support forums, but if we volunteers cannot help, we tag threads for Staff assistance.

    Best wishes and good luck!
