Why is a "Comments" field showing up on a newly added page & not all the others?
-
This site was created earlier this year, and has never had Comments turned on.
I recently added a new page titled “Meals” which displays a “LEAVE A REPLY” field at the bottom. I made sure that “Comments” is not checked under “Screen Options” for that page.
Not sure where to go from here.

Hi there,
I just checked that page and it does look like comments were enabled for that page. I went ahead and disabled them, but you’ll want to make sure that they’re disabled for any pages going forward.
Here’s a page which talks about how to do so:

Let me know if you have any questions!

Hello,
I looked at the support page that you recommended, and it says to make sure that there is not a check mark next to “Comments” (under “Screen Options”). Since I had already confirmed that was the case on the “problem” page before submitting this question, I’m not sure what I could have done differently.
In any case, I GREATLY appreciate your help with this!

There actually should be a check next to comments in Screen Options. Then after that there will be a box lower down with two options: Comments and Pingbacks. Those are the ones which need to be unchecked (and which were checked in this case).
You just need to make sure those are unchecked going forward and you should be fine! :)

When Comments is checked, I don’t see a box lower down with the two options: Comments and Pingbacks.
Sorry to be a pain, but I’m trying to better understand this feature going forward.
Thx -
Not a problem at all!
Once you enable Comments in the Screen Options window, with some browsers you have to navigate out of the page (so click on “All Posts”) and then back in to the page in order to see the Comments box appear. It will be one of the boxes below your Visual Editor, so you may need to scroll down.

OK, I see what happened. The support document actually says to check the box next to “Discussion” (not “Comments” which is right next to it). So now I’m not sure what the purpose is of the Comments box, but at least I know the correct spot to check on the status of “Allow Comments.”
Thanks for hanging in there with me. -
Hmm, that’s strange! I will have to go through that document then and make sure that it is up to date with all of the correct verbiage.
But in any case, did you get it all sorted out? You see the right boxes and can control your Comments how you’d like? I just want to make sure that you are happy with your site. :)

yes, the page that was giving me trouble is OK now — I just wanted to better understand the process, and now I do :-)
