Why is a URL embedded in a post now reserved its own line?

  I like to embed URLs into blog posts, sometimes to refer readers to other content but usually as part of my strategy for giving proper credit for an image. Earlier this week I noticed that each URL has its own line. This development creates awkward formatting issues, as in this post: http://neatnik2009.wordpress.com/2013/05/20/feast-of-samuel-hanson-cox-and-arthur-cleveland-coxe-july-20/. There are many other examples.

  What is the best way to address this issue? I have many posts, so reformatting them would be extremely time-consuming.
