Why Is Blogroll A Category?
-
Forgive my ignorance, as I am relatively new to blogging and WP. I don’t understand the reasoning behind one of the categories being named “Blogroll”. Isn’t the blogroll a list of links to other webpages?
If so, then why am I able to assign a new post/article to the blogroll category and what happens if I do that. Does it link to the post?
Thanks!

To put it in a best way … U can have categories for ur blog roll entries in a very similar way to ur normal Posts.
So how does that make a difference –
When u have Blog Roll Entries under different categories, they are displayed as separate blocks in the side bar (depending on the theme). For eg , I have two blog roll categories ‘Blogs I Read’ and ‘My Links’
I do not use these categories on my posts (but may be if u want u really can, thought it would not have any impact with respect to the blog roll)
Hope that helps !Note : ‘Blogroll’ – is probably a default category provided by WordPress. and when used with ur blog roll entries, they would be listed under the caption ‘BLOGROLL’ in the side bar.

Blogroll is the default category. If you want more information on your blogroll which is displayed via your links widget in your sidebar this may be helpful http://bloggersblurt.wordpress.com/2006/09/17/widget-wizardry/
