Why is CNN’s Political Ticker so integrated with WordPress.com?

  Can anyone tell me why CNN’s political ticker is so integrated with WordPress.com, but they appear to be using wordpress software like MU or wordpress.org?

  Did WordPress give CNN something special here? I’m currently on wordpress.com but I’d like to switch to .org, it appears that CNN still gets the benefit of being the “most visited wordpress.com” political-esque blog though.

  WordPress.com IS WordPress MU. CNN’s political ticker is a VIP blog; for this they paid several hundred dollars in setup fees and I believe $250 per month. In exchange they have all kinds of benefits like ads, free access to the guts of their blogs, etc.
