Why is image outline so much larger than image?
-
I haven’t inserted an image for a while, but something seems to have changed since I last did this. Now when I insert a jpeg through the Insert Media option, it places and outline around the image that is much larger than the image itself (see page Window of Guilt Synopsis page). In the past, when inserting images, the outline that you see is much tighter around the image (see page Deadly Choices Synopsis page). This is what I want, how can I do this, because it is affecting the format of the text content on my page.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Please post the active links starting with http:// to the two pages to which you are referring.

I see no “Window of Guilt Synopsis” page on the site linked to your username. There is get informed, get secure and testimonials only.

-
I also wasted my time clicking in and looking for those pages on the blog linked to the username. that’s why I asked for active links to the two pages please.
-
My apologies, here are the links to those specific pages:
http://carrietestblog.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=202&action=edit (Window of Guilt synopsis)

Unfortunately, we volunteers cannot see your admin pages. Can you take a screenshot and post a link here?
-
(that is: we volunteers cannot see draft posts which are visible to you in your admin pages)
you could publish those posts?

I am wondering (if I’m not crazy) if there has been a change in how photos look when selected in the visual editor. For example, Chateau puts a lot of space around each picture with its shadow image, plus (I think) some additional padding. I don’t remember seeing an outline outside of the drag-able corners before, but I noticed it today.
Does TwentyTen CSS put padding around photos? If so this could be what the original poster is asking about.
-
The demo shows padding/border around gallery images, but not around normally inserted images. There would of course be padding/border with captioned images.
-
No, I’m not talking about captioned images. The border outline I’m referring to only appears when you click on a photo in the visual editor to edit the photo. I don’t use the visual editor all that often so I could be mis-remembering, but I recall that you’d select the photo and get the little squares so you could adjust the size. Or you could click the mountain icon to edit the photo.
Chateau is a theme I use for work, and today I noticed that extra box around the photo. Chateau puts that drop shadow image behind each image so it adds a LOT of space around each picture. Twenty Ten adds padding, but not so much—or I could be crazy!
-
The rectangle with the adjustment corners is inside the larger rectangle which apparently indicates how much padding is added by the CSS of the theme. I just switched back and forth on my test blog between Chateau and Twenty Ten and that’s what I’m seeing.
-
There could have been a change to the visual editor with 3.3. 3.31 just came out as well, but I don’t thing there was an editor update on it, just bug and security fixes.
-
I use Safari and we have never gotten the resize handles on images. We Safari users are second class citizens.
-
…well as I said, I could be mistaken in what I remember. I don’t fool with the visual editor often: it messes up things, switching back and forth. But that might be what the original poster is asking about. I was just curious…
-
I use Firefox for editing wp. Safari for other things. I’ve never gotten the use of “Spaces” clear so switching browsers is my way of changing which window I’m looking at. (I know, it’s not hard, but I have quirks…)

1Tess (moderator) captured my question/issue exactly! I am now wondering about version updates, because this padding has never appeared before when I have posted images in the past. I will try it again now to see if its still happening. Thank you!

Just tried inserting another image and the same thing is happening…there is a huge amount of padding around the image and I don’t understand why this happens after it gets uploaded to WordPress. Here is the link to the page:
http://carrietestblog.wordpress.com/synopsis-2/
Is there a way that I can scale this down to fit around the actual image?
-
Here is the direct link to the top image on the referenced page. Note that if you view that image in an image editing program, you will find a huge about of white space around the image. The white space is part of the image.
Double check the image copy you have on your computer that you uploaded and see if it has that white space too.
