Why is it more complicated than it needs to be?

I just want to type and control what I type. The complex blocks and nonsense make this worthless.
All I want to do is add a quote. I want to control it–I want to use my tab button or an ‘indent’ edit option to set it apart. I used to be able to, now I don’t understand what’s going on.
I tried selecting the quote block. What exactly am I supposed to see when I do? Because zilch happens. I Select it, paste or type the quote, hit enter. And it just looks like a sentence on the page. It’s not set apart or indented or anything. And I CAN’T indent it, I’ve looked for options and I can’t find them. And please, for the love of God don’t tell me to delete caches or change scripts or anything stupid like that. Not too long ago I could come type, create, edit the way I wanted, and move on. Now it’s an overly complicated mess. If there is a way to revert to just doing that, without the unhelpful helpful premade blocks, tell me how to do that.

Since you haven’t shared your site address, let us know at least what theme you’re using on your WordPress.com website.

If you are using a Classic or retired theme on your WordPress.com website, the theme’s CSS controls how features, like Quotes, are displayed. A theme’s CSS can be edited with the Explorer plan and higher. https://wordpress.com/support/editing-css/
