Why is it so slow?
-
Everyone,
I just started my blog.
And I was actually trying to come over to the forums to ask why is everything running so slow, when the page re-wrote everything in front of me.
For no reason.
I might be a ghost, but I am not the gremlins in the machine.
Does anyone know why everything is so slow? I have no idea why the page auto-re-freshed … that was CREEPY.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Oh – I googled why wordpress was so slow today and this came up – I have no answers either but its really frustrating me.
Am pleased its not just me though.

Carolyn,
I am more pleased that you actually took the time to answer.
I hope this means all the happiness people are busy helping the senior engineers fix whatever is happening.
:)
I’ll check out your blog, if I can get to it.

1) Disable AdBlock
2) Enable https http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
One or both should do the trick. It’s something that cropped up yesterday, not normal behaviour.

Raincoaster,
Thanks,
How do I disable AdBlock? I thought I paid separate for that?

Not AdWords. AdBlock. It’s an add-on for your browser that blocks ads from displaying. Google for instructions on disabling it on your particular browser.
-
I have never enabled that. I seldom trust google for much ….
Thanks!
I will still check it.
Have you heard from anyone how long they expect the last 48 hours to clear up? Or, is it with us for awhile?

OK,
I just logged in on a new session.
And I thought, GREAT IT IS FASTER. “10 seconds to logon – is that really faster?,” I thought.
Then 10 or more seconds later, the little widget showing me how many visitors I have had popped in …..
Any ideas what to fix for the slowness?
This is a little frustrating.

Please provide some details so Staff have something to work with.
(1) How are you connecting to the internet and to WordPress.com? The way you connect to the internet (mobile, satellite, DSL, dial-up) and to your blog, and how many proxy server jumps etc. it takes to connect can cause problems. There maybe be problems with your ISP and/or with the proxy servers. Also note that the main dashboard isn’t designed to work with touch devices through the tablet and smartphone browsers.
(2) Exactly which browser and version of it are you using. If you don’t know click here to find out > http://whatsmyuseragent.com/
These are the troubleshooting steps we take whenever any issues like this arise:
clearing your browser cache and cookies > http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
using the browser with all extensions or add-ons disabled
updating the browser to the latest stable version (not a buggy BETA browser version) http://browsehappy.com/
confirming third party cookies is enabled http://support.google.com/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=61416
confirming JavaScript is enabled http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654
confirming Flash is updated http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ and if required installing the latest version of Flash http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/
resetting your router and modem and rebooting your computer
then logging in using the secure https:// log-in see http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
trying another browser -
How often do troubles like this arise?
I think all the above?
Except the router, but have been on multiple access points.
What are the paid support options?

What are the paid support options?
There aren’t any. I have upgrades on my blogs but I don’t get any special support.
-
Thanks,
What other blogging softwares would have paid support services?
I am hearing an awful lot of problems with WordPress, especially about support issues.
Thanks again.
-
I’m sorry but I’m not aware of any blogging platforms that have paid support unless what you are referring to is VIP hosting > http://vip.wordpress.com/our-services/
-
However with VIP hosting you need a WordPress Guru on your staff – there are many people that are independent of WordPress.COM that do offer support and training – many schools also have classes – on both WordPress and basic computer skills
