why is "large" size for my pictures not available?

  I have the modularity lite theme and for the slideshow to work I should upload large pictures but the settings don’t allow me to click in large, even when the image is larger than needed. You can find a snapshot in http://quintaesenciamx.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/problem.jpg thanks

  Thumbnail, medium and large are supposed to be three predetermined sizes. You set the defaults for these sizes in Settings > Media. “Large” isn’t available when the image you upload is smaller than the default for this option.

  Thanks a lot for your answer, I couldn’t figure out why it was that even if they state that the dimensions needed for the post slider were at least 950×425, if you upload an image that size, it’s irrelevant because you wouldn’t be able to use it unless it’s bigger than 1024×504… it actually is kind of dumb, because then I’m not able to control the slideshow as I need it. I guess they should allow for a medium-large image size to put it as post slider.

  Sorry but I don’t understand what you’re talking about.
  The facts:
  a) The ML slideshow has fixed dimensions: 950×425 pixels. Images at those exact dimensions will be displayed as is, larger ones will be cropped to fit (except if in the same aspect ratio), smaller ones won’t show up.
  b) The ML slideshow displays the first image you have uploaded via the Add Media tool of a front page post (if it’s 950×425 or larger), no matter which size option you select when you insert it in the post – in fact, no matter if you insert it at all.
  So I don’t see why you asked about the Large option in connection with the ML slideshow, and I don’t see where your “1024×504” comes from.

  Indeed you’re right… the thing is that I wanted to upload the exact image size but as it is not as large as the “large setting” i can only put it into medium size and THEN it is not shown because of the “smaller” size
