Why is my archives widget not showing content – PLEASE HELP!!!

  • Unknown's avatar

I have recently changed my theme from The Adventure Journal to Hemingway rewritten.

I am completely baffled at why my archives widget appears on my sidebar, but it has no content… when you click on it, it shows “Search content” but there’s nothing below to search!
I had no problems with it before I changed my theme, and I’m really hoping that this is not a theme issue?!

Please can someone help me out here!! I have removed it and put it back on a hundred times but it’s still not working…
(I currently have it off so that it doesn’t make my blog look silly)

  • Are you sure you are adding Archives Widget?

Could you please put it back so I can see how it looks? Thank you.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me :)
Yes I’m sure I’m adding the archives widget – it’s the one I was using before with no issues…
I’ve put it back now for you to have a look at.

Hi there…. any news on my widget problem?

  • Unknown's avatar

Your archives widget is there. And the options are also there. Do you have a CSS upgrade? The text on the drop down menu seems to be white on a white background so it doesn’t show up unless you hover over it so it become white text with a blue background.

I’ve modlooked this topic so that staff can take a look at what is going on. If you subscribe, then you’ll be notified when there is a response.

Oh my goodness I can see that now….!

I don’t have the CSS upgrade, and not sure I want to get it, especially just to fix one little problem… any chance you know of a fix without using the CSS upgrade?

  • Unknown's avatar

I don’t know a fix—don’t have the upgrade either. But I’ve marked this topic so a staff member will help you. No upgrade necessary for that!

Something is definitely wrong, so just be patient until someone can fix it for you. I think it’s an issue with FireFox 30.0.2 because the widget looks fine in Safari.

Thank you soooo much for your help so far!
I’ll just leave the widget there for now so that any staff that look into it can help me out straight away.
I’m using chrome and obviously have the same issue on there.

I just tested this on my own site and that isn’t happening. Can you try removing the widget and adding it back again?

    @ Shawnajroberts,
    I’m running this:
    OS X 10.9.5
    FireFox 33.0.2
and the problem is clearly there: the archives widget is not working properly.
The archives widget looks find in
    Safari Version 7.1 (9537.85.10.17.1)
It also works fine in Chrome:
    Version 38.0.2125.111

Let’s hope it’s some odd setting in FireFox both the OP and I have which causes the problem. But what could it be? Or we can chalk it up to Gremlins and hope that deleting and replacing the archives will work.

    Hi Shaunajroberts and 1tess,

I’ve just removed and re-added the widget (although I have already tried this numerous times)…. it’s not made any difference on my side this time.
I’m using Chrome (have no clue what version it is but I assume it’s pretty recent because it’s my work laptop).

How is it looking for you guys after the latest remove/add?

  • Unknown's avatar

Ah ha! I just did a bit more testing and was able to reproduce this. It looks like Chrome is doing some self-correcting here. The CSS for the color in the dropdown is white when your background is dark enough to have white text.

I’ve reported it to our theme developers and I’ll let you know when I hear back. :)

  • Unknown's avatar

Yay, looks like we’re on our way to resolving the issue… will wait to hear from the theme developers now :)

    Hi again….

I have a slight update from my side.
Last night while sitting at home on my blog I noticed that I was able to see my archives widget perfectly.
But today at work I can’t.

I use Google Chrome on both computers, however at work I am using a windows 8 laptop, and at home I use a Mac.
Any chance that is somehow affecting the widget?

    Thanks!

Different browsers behave differently. Some of them are (or try to be) ‘smart’ and will correct if they can tell that there’s something wonky with a page’s formatting. I imagine this is why I didn’t see the issue at first as well.

The theme developers can get this fixed so that its viewable in all browsers. :)

    Hi there!

Our theme developers have pushed a fix for this. Let me know if there’s anything else I can help with.

  • Unknown's avatar

Just checked and guess what – IT’S WORKING :)
Thanks so much for your help!!!

I’m so glad! Let me know if I can help with anything else. :D
